CARBON ACCOUNTING ANALYST

Early to Mid-Career | Remote (U.S.-based) | Part-time

Position Summary

Pagitsas Advisors is seeking a Carbon Accounting Analyst — a consultant with 4 to 8 years of focused experience in corporate GHG accounting and emissions reporting. This is a technical, client-facing role embedded within our growing sustainability advisory practice, supporting clients across life sciences, pharmaceutical, industrial manufacturing and/or financial services in building credible, decision-ready emissions inventories and decarbonization strategies.

The Carbon Accounting Analyst will work across multiple client engagements, delivering high-quality GHG inventory development, Scope 3 analysis and target-setting support — contributing technical expertise while collaborating closely with senior consultants and program managers to drive client outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

GHG Inventory & Emissions Analysis

  • Develop and manage corporate GHG emissions inventories across Scope 1, 2 and 3, applying GHG Protocol standards and relevant sector-specific guidance.

  • Conduct emissions data collection, validation and analysis — identifying gaps, assessing data quality and recommending improvements to inventory methodology and processes.

  • Support clients in understanding and quantifying Scope 3 value chain emissions across relevant categories, including supply chain, business travel, upstream and downstream impacts.

  • Prepare clear, well-documented emissions reports and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations to client sustainability and finance teams.

Target Setting & Decarbonization Support

  • Support clients in setting science-based targets and developing near- and long-term decarbonization roadmaps aligned with GHG Protocol and SBTi requirements.

  • Assist in assessing reduction opportunities across client operations and value chains, translating technical analysis into actionable guidance.

  • Help clients navigate voluntary and emerging regulatory disclosure requirements including CDP, CSRD and related frameworks.

Supplier & Supply Chain Emissions Support

  • Support supplier engagement programs focused on GHG data collection and emissions capacity building, working alongside program managers and senior consultants.

  • Provide technical guidance to suppliers on GHG accounting methodology, data submission and target-setting processes.

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of training and capacity-building resources for supplier audiences.

Client Collaboration & Project Support

  • Work as part of multi-disciplinary consulting teams, contributing technical analysis and deliverables across concurrent client engagements.

  • Collaborate with program managers and senior advisors to ensure technical work is well-integrated into broader client programs and clearly communicated to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Maintain organized project documentation and support internal quality review processes.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4–8 years of professional experience in corporate GHG accounting and emissions reporting, in a consulting or in-house corporate sustainability role.

  • Strong working knowledge of the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and Scope 3 Standard, including emissions calculation methodologies, boundary setting and data quality assessment.

  • Demonstrated experience developing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions inventories for corporate clients or employers across multiple sectors.

  • Familiarity with science-based target setting processes and SBTi guidance for corporate and supplier target setting.

  • Experience supporting or preparing disclosures for CDP, GRI, CSRD or similar voluntary and regulatory frameworks.

  • Strong analytical and data management skills with high proficiency in Excel and comfort working with large, complex datasets.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills — able to present technical content to non-technical client audiences.

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, sustainability, economics or a related field.

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with carbon accounting or ESG data management platforms (e.g., Watershed, Workiva, Sphera or similar).

  • Experience supporting supplier GHG capacity building or Scope 3 supplier engagement programs.

  • Familiarity with ISO 14064 and third-party assurance or verification processes.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences or industrial manufacturing sectors.
